Jackson State University
The site of the School of Engineering establishes it as the new gateway to the western campus of Jackson State University. This highly imaginative 83,500-square foot facility provides classrooms, computer/electronic systems labs, engineering labs, office suites for the dean and departmental heads, plus support areas. Flexible and efficient, this project meets or exceeds the requirements for LEED™ certification. The exterior orientation and plan organization is designed to maximize passive day-lighting techniques in all classrooms and labs. Generous roof overhangs protect windows from direct sun exposure, while light shelves reflect glare-free natural light deep within the building. Interior materials were selected based on recycled content, low VOC’s, and low maintenance finishes to provide a healthy work environment for students and faculty.
