These new facilities will augment the efforts to make Redstone Arsenal the Army's Aviation Technology Center of Excellence. The steel frame building for the maintenance and testing of Army rotorcraft/helicopters encompasses 126,287 sf total. Flexible, high-bay spaces of approximately 72,000 sf concurrently house a variety of aircraft for maintenance, including up to four CH-47 Chinook and six UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters. The hangar includes 33,200 sf of space for the Flight Test Control Center, Flight Operations and administrative functions, including private and open workspaces. A 12,600 sf maintenance area contains tools, sheet metal, avionics, life support equipment, and weight and balance shops.
