Public Employees’ Retirement System Building

Jackson, MS

The new home of the Public Employees’ Retirement System of Mississippi is a complete renovation of an existing 56,280-square foot curtain-wall building, circa-1956, plus a 20,740-square foot addition on the west end.  Also included is a new 270-car garage on its south side. The existing building was demolished back to its structural frame and utility core, and re-sheathed in a cast-limestone and GFRC veneer compatible with its historic neighbors. The project’s design solution was highly influenced by the need of unencumbered, but secured, public access to the facility. All external pedestrian traffic must pass through a single control point in the new lobby. Departments requiring public access are located on the lower levels, while administrative, data processing and investment functions are on the upper floors.
