Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL
As part of the Base Realignment and Closure Program, NAS Pensacola was rejuvenated to accept a new 4,200-man training center. Included in the center is this award-winning 55,000-square foot galley, sited to be the focal point of the new campus, visually and functionally. The structure is programmed and designed to serve the 5,500 sailors and marines trained in the complex within 120 minutes, or three settings. The multiple dining areas enjoy an abundance of natural light, while service and dishwashing functions are confined to the four solid corner towers. The entire project, totaling over 1 million square feet, also includes a central plant, a recreation facility and 4,350 barrack/housing units.
